House Bill 1464

AN ACT TO DESIGNATE THE LABRADOR RETRIEVER AS THE STATE CANINE OF MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, the friendly nature of the Labrador Retriever goes well with the state's nickname, "The Hospitality State"; and

WHEREAS, the versatile nature of the Labrador, reflected in the many jobs he can do, mirrors the many industries hosted by our state; and

WHEREAS, the sporting nature of the Labrador represents the variety of sportsmen and sporting activities that our state has to offer; and

WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi has no state canine; and

WHEREAS, the appeal of the Labrador Retriever to a wide variety of our citizens makes him an excellent representative of the canine family for our state; NOW THEREFORE,

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Labrador Retriever is designated as the state canine of Mississippi.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
